Professor Adolphus Runyan, a genius scientist and inventor, invents a "gas so powerful that is capable of penetrating any type of gas-mask". The experiment kills Ambrose as it is demonstrated to Clark Kent.

Runyan is killed, most probably by Bartow. (S No. 2/2, Sep 1939)
