Harry “King” Saphire

A Metropolis crime czar, forced into hiding by Superman, who conceals his identity beneath a leaden mask and adopts the alias “the Mask” as part of an elaborate scheme to ruin Superman’s reputation by tricking the Man of Steel into impersonating Harry “King” Saphire for investigative purposes, and then by seeing to it that this impersonation is discovered, thus making it appear that Superman is secretly Metropolis’s most dangerous criminal. Harry “King” Saphire, alias the Mask, is apprehended by Superman in September-October 1953 (WF No. 66; “Superman, Ex-Crimebuster!”).
