A local Hudson River area historian and treasure hunter who, having discovered the resting place of a sunken vessel carrying $1,000,000 worth of gold and gems, concocts an elaborate scheme to frighten the curious away from the scene by having his henchmen pose as ghosts and figures from local legends come miraculously to life. Crowther is apprehended by Superman in September-October 1946 (S No. 42/2: "A Legend Comes True!").
