While in prison, Luthor uses a speck of element Xium he had hid in the filling of his hollow tooth to “furnish super-energy†to a super-ray projector he had made of out radio parts. When he was testing it out on Clark Kent, Clark realizes it could give super-powers to other people when he sees a fly transformed into a super-fly, so he fakes receiving super-powers so Luthor won’t suspect of his secret identity (Act 257, Nov 1959: “The Reporter of Steel!â€)
