A malevolent purple-skinned alien from the "weird purple-hued world" of the fourth dimension, a "frustrated poet," communicating frequently in rhyme, whose complex scientific machinery enables him to kidnap entire buildings from the earthly dimension, either to loot at his leisure in the fourth dimension or to hold captive until his exorbitant demands for ransom are met. His ultimate ambition is to "rule the world," a desire Superman sees as a symptom of the alien's need "to compensate for [his] failure as a poet!" Pursued through a series of alien dimensions by Superman in May-June 1942, Mister Sinister is transformed into a harmless black shadow when a raygun blast intended for the Man of Steel accidentally hits the villain instead (S No. 16/3: "Case of the Runaway Skyscrapers")
